The owner of this apartment - situated on the first floor of an 18th century manor house - wished to remove the long corridor connecting the rooms and create a large living room with library, a dining room and kitchen and a spacious bedroom with en suite bathroom for guests.
The tiles have been replaced by solid oak floors to create a warm and modern atmosphere. The high ceiling was completely restored in classical style of the period using plaster with ornamentations and stucco.
The library is also the creation of the plasterer Yvan Dalzon, who still works in a traditional way and is a master of his art. In the bedroom, the creation of a circular window allows in more light and at the same time illuminates the rather barren north facade.
In the bathroom, the reproduction cement tiles blend well with the furnishings and are easy to clean. They were laid with a slight slope running into an evacuation pipe making a shower wall unnecessary, giving a greater sense of space and needing less maintenance. An antique dressing table was fitted with a new marble top incorporating a wash basin. That, together with the free-standing bathtub, has created a wonderful atmosphere combining elegant rooms in a modern dwelling.
